The 7th Zilhaj is the day of Shahadat(martyrdom) of Imam Mohammed Baqir (A.S), the fifth Imam of theShiahs.

We send ourcondolence to all the followers of his holiness and we relate a fewaspects from his holy life.

Due to theinstable government of the cruel Bani Umayya, Imam Mohammed Baqer(A.S) got a golden opportunity to lay the groundwork of the culturalfoundation of the Shiahs.


Because of hisvast knowledge, he was entitled as Baqer (the splitter of knowledge).

Imam Baqer (A.S)possessed a special character so much so that sometimes he would workhimself to fulfill his needs. Even during the old age, he would workin the agricultural field.

In an eloquentand small statement to his contemporary Calipha, he says:

“ I recommendthat you to treat the Muslim childrens as your own childrens and togive them shelter. Treat the Muslim youths as your own brothers andlook at the Muslim elder as your own father. Have mercy and show pityto your children, have a relation with your brothers and have anexcellent and good relation with your father. If you have laid thefoundation of a good work, pursue and expand it”.

A few moresayings from Imam Mohammed Baqir (A.S):

  1. Envy and jealousy eats the Imaan (belief) in the same way as the wood burns in the fire.

  2. The Almighty Allah seeks two virtues and excellence from the people.

One shouldacknowledge and admit the bounties so that He will increase in it.

One shouldconfess to the sins so that He will forgive it.

  1. There are three things, which the Almighty Allah has never allowed anybody to violate and infringe upon it.


  1.  

    • First, is giving the trust and deposit even though the trust owner may be a virtuous or a sinner.

    • Second, to keep ones promise and allegiance, even though the owner of allegiance may be a good or an evil person.

    • Third, respect to the parents even though they may be upright or bad.

  2. One of the most deprived people from manly virtues and human virtues are the liars.

We aspire andhope that acting on the saying of our holy Imams, we become therighteous followers of Ahlul Bait (A.S).
