The Day of Arafah

The Ninth of the month of Zilhajj is a great Islamic Idd. It is a day when the Almighty Allah has invited His creatures towards His worship and obedience. He has opened and expanded His beneficence and favor on them.

On this day, the accursed Satan is very angry, highly despised and in utmost humiliation.

It has been narrated in a tradition that on the day of Arafah, the fourth Imam, Hazrat Imam Sajjad (A.S) heard the voice of someone asking help from the people. The holy Imam (A.S) told him, “ Woe be upon you. Is it that on this day, you seek help from someone other than Allah while its hoped that on this day, the infants in their mother’s wombs receive Allah’s Grace and turn prosperous.

Certain acts that are to be performed on the day of Arafah.

  1. Ghusl (ceremonial washing).

  2. Recitation of the Ziarat of Imam Hussein (A.S), which is highly recommended and carries a lot of spiritual reward.

  3. After reciting the Asr (evening) prayers and before commencing the recitation of the Dua of Arafah, it is recommended to recite two Rakat of Namaz. It is better to recite this namaz beneath the open sky and one should confess his sins so that one attains the reward of the day of Arafah and gets his sins forgiven.

  4. The recitation of supplications that has come down in Mafatih–ul–Jenan from the holy Ahlul Bait (A.S) like, the Salawat of Imam Sajad (A.S) and the famous Dua of Imam Hussein (A.S) on the day of Araafah.

May the Almighty Allah grant us the success and grace to perceive and understand the day of Arafah?
