The brief biography about Imam Sadiq (A.S)
Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq was born in Madina in an early morning of a faraday (or Monday) the 17th of Rabi ul-Awwal of 80 or 83 A.H. That year was later called as the year of hunger."
Jafar Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ali Ibn Husain Ibn Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) was the 6th Imam, his nickname was Abu Abdullah, and his famous title was "Sadiq". He had other titles, such as Saber, Taher, and Fazel. Moreover, since his contemporary jurisprudents and scholars, who even were not his Shia's, found that holy Imam so honest ppreciated histruthfulness in relation of the Islamic traditions, so he became famous as Sadiq. Yet the Imam, who was appointed by God and expressly stated in the texts of the last Imams, was much superior to just being described as truth speaker and honest!
The name of his mother was umma Farua.
The virtues of the holy Imam.
It should be noted that the virtues mentioned for the Imams, are sometime different with each other. But, it is not mean that the virtues particular to one Imam, do not exist in other Imam. They have had the same noble virtues. They were created from the same light and same nature. Each one of them was outstanding samples of good virtues among their people. Yet, due to soul condition, showing the virtues in the Imams were different and they revealed particular virtues. For example opus of bravery in the Amir ul-Momenin and his noble son, Imam Husain (a.s.) were not same as opus in the other Imams. The bravery of Imam Ali (a.s.) with his war in company with the holy Prophet of Islam, and his war against crules, unjusts, and oppressors in the time of his caliphate appeared. The bravery of Imam Husain (a.s.) appeared when he had an order to war against the curls. But, the other Imams, as they were divinely ordered for dissimulation, and caution, the appearance of the bravery like the two Imams, were not necessary. But with this explanation, they were the brave people in their time and they were the same in it. Instead of that the quality of science was appeared in the Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq (a.s.) more than the other Imams. Because their condition were in the time that they lived in the last day of government that they would destruction, and in this time the other government came instead of the old government. But the quality of science was common in all of them and they were wisdom people in their time. And the opus of greatness, forgiveness, the lot of truth, and free of the slave in some Imams has more appearance, because they had extent of life from the side of wealth or in their time the number of poor were more than other times. But all of them were famous as great, and forgive. In some Imams the quality of worship was enjoying more relief and it because of the people have less information from them, or that Imam was a life short time. Even though all of the Imams were the most worship in their time. So the quality of forbearance was appeared in some of the Imams more than the others, maybe that Imam suffered the kind of harm and bothering during his life and tolerance of bothering and injury were cause appearing a lot of forbearance from the Imam. With this explanation, the Imams were the most forbearance people in their times.
One of the virtues and excellence of Imam Sadiq (a.s.) was the following:
Just one of his narrators that his name was Aban Ibn Taqlab, said 30000 traditions from this holy Imam.
Hasan Ibn Ali Vasha has stated, "in this mosque (Kufa mosque), I met more than 900 grant scholars of traditions, who said Jafar Ibn Muhammad taught tradition for us."
Sheikh Mofid wrote in Ershada, "The sciences received from that Imam were very frequent. His name was spread in the world. Scholars narrated most of the tradition from that Imam, than other Imams. None of the narrators and scholars of traditions could benefit the other Imams, as much as they benefited from Imam Sadiq. He has had more than 4,000 students in different high academic courses.
The one who high academic courses in the shia's works, can see traditions from studies Imam Sadiq (a.s.) in different jurisprudence and theology.
It is for the same reason that the school of the followers of Amirul Momnin Ali (p.b.u.h.) is also familiar as "Shia Ja'faria school of thoughts".
